respite 300 x 200Caring for a family member or friend with special medical needs can be a physically, mentally and emotionally taxing job.

Respite care is an important part of the senior care equation in that it provides a much-needed break for the caregiver as well as providing professional short-term care for adults with special medical needs.

Embassy Healthcare is proud to offer respite care services at several of our communities throughout Ohio.

What is respite care?

Respite care is short-term care for adults with a variety of special medical needs. The length of the care varies from a few hours to overnight or multiple days. Embassy Healthcare’s respite care services – including special care for those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia – are designed with guests and their caregivers in mind. The services can be utilized as often as needed, or just once if you like.

What services are provided with respite care

The services included in respite care vary by location, but the goal is to meet most of the guest’s needs to have a healthy, engaging stay. Services provided may include:

  • Three square meals a day
  • Assistance with personal care including dressing, bathing, toileting, and grooming
  • Constant supervision
  • Fun, socially engaging activities and outings; transportation

When to use respite care

There are numerous benefits of respite care to both the guest and their caregiver. The caregiver gets peace of mind in knowing their loved one is getting individualized, professional care, while the guest benefits from engaging activities and having a rested and recharged caregiver upon their return home.

You may consider using respite care when:

  • You’re finding it hard to balance providing care for your loved one with other aspects of your life, including other family members, friends or work
  • You feel burned out and in need of a break
  • Going on vacation and need someone to watch after your loved one
  • The loved one is recovering from surgery and needs more medical attention before returning home
  • You’re considering a skilled nursing community for your loved one and want to give it a trial run
